![]() ![]() The staff are all very friendly and accommodating, and I felt like they truly cared about our stay at the Inn. The only hiccup was that we had a plumbing issue with the newly remodeled bathroom in the Summer Kitchen where we stayed, but the issue was resolved quickly while we were out and about. We spent the rest of our weekend walking the grounds, wine tasting nearby, and enjoying the adirondack chairs and swing out back that face the Blue Ridge mountains. Our dinner at the Inn's restaurant after was exquisite and leisurely, and we loved every item that they served (so delicious!) The menu's were even personalized with our names, which was a nice touch. We chose to be married in one of their lovely "secret" garden passageways, and the grounds were fantastic for our many wedding photos. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and maintained in a fashion that holds true to the era of the plantation (for example, the brick walkways are a bit uneven). all we had to do was show up, and they provided the officiant, cake, champagne, and beautiful backdrop. We were married at the Meander Inn after booking their "elopement package". I am torn whether I'd be back - I like the house and the grounds very much but the service and the breakfast were not up to par. The service overall was patchy - I did not feel as welcome as I usually feel at B&Bs. My friend did have the sausage, but it was barely warm, and she did not enjoy it either. That's fine, but I am not sure what's the point of asking then as it appears as it would be customized. ![]() I was asked the night before if I had dietary restrictions, and since I do not eat red meat, I was just not given the pork sausage served with the two breakfast options in the morning - there was no substitute. The teapot had lukewarm water and it took about 20 minutes for the main course to come (there was butter on the table but no bread). Our breakfast was pretty sad - I guess we had high expectations given the reputation the place has for its dinner. We had take-out dinner on the lawn overlooking rolling hills and mountains - it was gorgeous. Our room (Robinson) was much smaller then shown on the picture, and I am not sure how they made it look so bright on the picture - it has only one small window and remained dark even in mid-day with fierce sunlight. The grounds are beautiful - maintained with taste and pride. The house is absolutely gorgeous and is preserved superbly. All in all - it was a fantastic overnight package. Fine, strong coffee or tea is available in addition to cranberry, orange juice or water. Breakfast the next morning consisted of fresh from the oven blueberry muffins, fruit plate and a then a choice of two different entrees. The food is presented very nicely, is incredibly fresh and prepared in a healthy manner as well. Wine pairings for each course are available for an additional cost. They also served us some fantastic honey butter and beer bread. There are two choices of appetizers, two choices of salads, three choices for entrees, and two for dessert. Dinner is a five course affair, served at a lovely pace. ![]() An hour before dinner they are happy to serve you wine and hors d'oeuvres anywhere you happen to find a cozy spot - inside or outside - on the main level. The food and service in the dining room was amazing. But the good news - there is a thermostat right outside your door that you can adjust for comfort. Good is that it has central air (many of the other rooms appeared to have window units). But because they room is above the kitchen in the main house, you have the good and the bad. The room is also right above the kitchen, but I can say that we only heard some soft, rather vague goings-on while there. If you're looking for a luxurious, new, remodeled bathroom - this is not the room for you. I will say that the room is lovely, but the bathroom is quite authentically old. It is exactly like it is pictured on the website. We stayed in the Colonel Fry Suite which was large and comfortable. Small garden and fountain in back, not much other than a few chairs on the front patio. This historic inn is by no means rundown, but it could use a fresh coat of paint and a bit more attention to the grounds. The driveway is a bit long and bumpy, so you need to take it slowly. Located just south of Culpeper (a nice town with some cute shops and restaurants), it is easy to find. My husband and I just celebrated another anniversary at this cozy, romantic Inn. ![]()
